On August 10, 2019…I made my way to Miami Beach to relax and float. It was my first time back in the state of Florida in some years since my grandfather passed and it was my first time ever in this city. I found myself unwilling to explore the city but rather relaxing on the beach and floating. It was my first time floating. As a young girl watching individuals swim, I always wondered how people floated in the water. I would always ask people I saw floating…”how do you float, can you teach me”, and they would simply say, “you just relax”. Obviously as a young girl I knew what the word relax meant but I did not understand what it meant. On this day in August, I floated for the first time ever. I felt like that little girl. I was in the OCEAN, Miami’s ocean. I was this little creature in this vast body of water with tons of organisms swimming around me, uplifting me on top of the water. I just lay on top of the water legs and arms extended, sun beaming on my face, looking up into the sky thanking God for bringing me back full circle. Yes, I let go, relaxed, and floated while thinking about that little girl who always wondered how others floated….
